Great and timely post Jordan.

Agree wholeheartedly that lawyers need to have their own publishing platform. I explain to law firms that they are now part of the media and need to be prepared to publish and broadcast on their own.

Question will be how it all comes together. Like you I follow Jarvis and Publishing 2.0 to get ideas.

I think we're on to something with LexMonitor. Now it would be nice to have a think tank/advisory board with minds like yours and Jarvis' provding guidance.

Agree totally on the being your own platform. I just wish more lawyers had the courage to jump in alone. My gut feeling is that those that do will thrive at establishing their personal brand. Not that group efforts can't have an impact, but individuals & faces are still the human touch that can deliver marketing home runs, IMO.

For me this is where the whole web 2.0 for lawyers comes in. Once engaged in these technologies, there really isn't a limit to extending one's footprint. Not only can you get your latest content out in real time; but the republication opportunities with print just seem to follow. Content pieces that are best-of-breed will get picked up, both via other bloggers & in print, and the life of a *great* article can dominate within the search engines for years to come.

But I suppose I'm preaching to the choir here. :) ... good post Jordan.
